Insha’allah is a common response in the Arab and muslim world and particularly so in the Saudi world. Insha’allah simply means “God willing.” The majority of Saudis, male or female, young or old, will end conversations with ‘insha’allah.’ Now among Saudis you will find there are some who it is a habit to use the phrase because they truly believe that anything that happens or takes place is indeed up to God. But on the other hand there are also Saudis who will respond to a query with “insha’allah” because they do not want to say no or disappoint. One will learn to distinguish which Saudis use ‘insha’allah’ as a rote response to all and which Saudis use the phrase as a cop out phrase.
In my experience if something is asked of a Saudi and he or she responds such as yes, insha’allah or of course, insha’allah he or she is likely sincere and will follow through on whatever has been asked. However if the response is only the word insha’allah without a word of confirmation then chances are this is the “soft no” instead.
