I think I may have caused a trend. A trend in the fashion world that is. The fact that it is now notorious as a "Chavy" trend. If you don’t know what Chavy is you definitely need to search the meaning of the word.
And if you can’t be bothered to search the term let me explain in my very colorful way.
A boy chav has a goatee and baseball cap, two phones, tracksuit bottoms, a little pouch, an ear ring, limited vocabulary and some cigarettes.
A girl chav (also known fondly as a “Sharon”) is someone who has a shell suit, a push chair with a baby, some cigarettes and bad breath.
So how may I have inadvertently started a trend?
Well, when I cast back my mind to about a decade ago (yes folks, THATS how old I am) I seem to recall owning nothing with a designer name on it. In fact any labels on any fabrics that I owned were on the inside and they weren’t anything anyone could be proud of. In fact the fashion police would probably torture you for committing such crimes of horrendous questionable fashion.
I mean things were so bad I had the same coat that my uncle owned....and I thought I was cool. That is how bad it was!!!
So when I bought my first pair of fashionable "named" boots I was over the moon...Hell I was proud. I had also recently purchased my own pair of "stripey" tracksuit bottoms too. It made perfect sense to combine the two. After all, why not? Stripey cool tracksuit bottom plus some double soled boots would look cool with one another, especially if the little zips on the bottom of the tracksuit bottom so that they covered the boot, partially.
I thought this was so cool….
For about 5 minutes. Until I had bought some trainers and stopped wearing boots with tracksuit bottoms. With jeans even too. In fact wearing jeans with shoes/boots is another iHatie of mine. Why do people do it?
Anyway the disease had been spread. In a few years numbers of youth and yobs would emulate this (and take it to the next level).....
I watched in horror as to what I had done.
Please forgive me world for without me the chav may not have been born.
RIP Rockport boots!!!
