I was standing in the sandwich shop waiting for my order. Id ordered a cheese salad baguette for lunch and two pieces of brown toast for breakfast. I'd already paid and was awaiting my change along with my goods. This kid with a limp comes in and hollers a"can i have a chicken tikka baguette please" over the counter. The serving woman comes and takes my money and then hands the change to the kid. He puts his hands in his pocket and pulls out the money he had reserved for food. I can see the reluctance in his eyes. He trembles with excitement. "Am i going to get away with this?" he probably thinks. You bet you will! im not giving you up.
Its the reluctance we all feel. Reluctance and happiness when we know we have gained something for nothing. The elation is beyond words. Like finding some money on the street in the morning will make the rest of your day.
The kid hangs around in the shop for 10 seconds or more. and then casually just leaves!
Now if only i could find something on the street!
