Help, quick – I’ve unscrewed the top on a ticking bomb

Like any responsible parent, I would not leave a loaded gun in the children’s playroom or keep my painkillers in their sweetie tin. But it turns out that for two years there has been a nuclear bomb in one of my kitchen cupboards, between the tomato ketchup and the Rice Krispies.

It’s an American chilli sauce that was bought by my wife as a joky Christmas present. And, like all joky Christmas presents, it was put in a drawer and forgotten about. It’s called limited-edition Insanity private reserve and it came in a little wooden box, along with various warning notices. “Use this product one drop at a time,” it said. “Keep away from eyes, pets and children. Not for people with heart or respiratory problems. Use extreme caution.”

Unfortunately, we live in a world where everything comes with a warning notice. Railings. Vacuum cleaners. Energy drinks. My quad bike has so many stickers warning me of decapitation, death and impalement that they become a nonsensical blur.

The result is simple. We know these labels are drawn up to protect the manufacturer legally, should you decide one day to insert a vacuum-cleaner pipe up your bottom, or to try to remove your eye with a teaspoon. So we ignore them. They are meaningless. One drop at a time! Use extreme caution! On a sauce. Pah. Plainly it was just American lawyer twaddle.

I like a hot sauce. My bloody marys are known to cure squints. And at an Indian restaurant I will often order a vindaloo, sometimes without the involvement of a wager. So when I accidentally found that bottle of Insanity, I poured maybe half a teaspoonful onto my paella. And tucked in.
Burns victims often say that when they are actually on fire, there is no pain. It has something to do with the body pumping out adrenaline in such vast quantities that the nerve endings stop working. Well, it wasn’t like that for me.

The pain started out mildly, but I knew from past experience that this would build to a delightful fiery sensation. I was even looking forward to it. But the moment soon passed. In a matter of seconds I was in agony. After maybe a minute I was frightened that I might die. After five I was frightened that I might not.

The searing fire had surged throughout my head. My eyes were streaming. Molten lava was flooding out of my nose. My mouth was a shattered ruin. Even my hair hurt.

And all the time, I was thinking: “If it’s doing this to my head, what in the name of all that's holy is it doing to my innards?” I felt certain that at any moment my stomach would open and everything — my intestines, my liver, my heart, even — would simply splosh onto the floor. This is not an exaggeration. I really did think I was dissolving from the inside out.

Trying to keep calm, I raced, screaming, for the fridge and ate handfuls of crushed ice. This made everything worse. So, dimly remembering that Indians use bread when they've overdone the chillies, I cut a slice, threw it away and ate what remained of the very expensive Daylesford loaf, like a dog.

Nothing was working. And such was my desperation, I downed two litres of skimmed milk — something I would never normally touch with a barge pole. I was sweating profusely as my body frenziedly sought to realign its internal thermostat. I felt sick but didn’t dare regurgitate the poison for fear of the damage it would cause on the way out.

Even now, the following morning, I feel weak, shell-shocked, like I may die at any moment. And all I’d ingested was a drop.

Limited-edition Insanity sauce is ridiculous. It’s made in Costa Rica, from hot pepper extract, crushed red savina peppers, red tabasco pepper pulp, green tabasco pepper pulp, crushed red habanero peppers, crushed green habanero peppers, red habanero pepper powder and fruit juice.

Well, that’s what it says on the tin. But I don’t believe it. I think it’s made from uranium, plutonium, fertiliser, sulphuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and ammonia, with a splash of mace. I do not believe it’s a foodstuff. It’s a weapon.

And I may have a point, since on the Scoville scale, which measures the intensity of chilli peppers, the habanero sits just below the “daisy cutter”, that American bomb designed to wipe out nations.

At present you are allowed to take 100ml of liquid onto a plane because the authorities believe such a small amount could not possibly bring down an airliner. They are wrong. If I painted just 1ml of Insanity sauce on the window of a 747, it would melt. And this is stuff you can buy on the internet. Stuff that has been sitting in my kitchen for two years.

So, what’s to be done? As you know, I am not Gordon Brown. I do not think problems can be solved with a ban, even though I really believe that a bottle of Insanity sauce is more deadly than a machinegun.

The obvious course of action is to remove warning notices from household goods that are not dangerous — cakes, for instance, and staplers. This way, we would pay more attention when something is supplied with labels advising us of great peril ahead.

Sadly, however, since we are now one of the most litigious countries in the world, this will never happen. Nor can Insanity be uninvented. It exists. A bottle of the damn stuff is sitting on my desk now and I have no idea what I should do with it.

I can’t pour it down the sink because it would get into the water table. I can’t put it in the bin because it would end up as landfill. And that’s no good for something which has a half-life of several thousand years. I can’t even take it — as I would with a grenade I’d found — to the police because they’d be tempted to use it as a legal device for getting information out of criminals. And that wouldn’t work at all. Last night, when the bread had failed and the milk was finished, I would happily have confessed to 43 counts of homosexual rape. Plus there is a side effect — certain death.

Sonny Deol is like Steven Seagel

If you have some old posts on this blog you'l know me and Steven dont see eye to eye anymore. But its also just dawned on me that Sunny Deol is an asianified version of good ole Steven.

All his films are crap. In every film, he wants revenge because you touched his sister, kicked his cat or asked him to show his old age persons bus pass...on the bus.

Yet he keeps on making films in that same hairdo and different shirt to boring tedious storylines.

Why Sunny why? Cant you go the way of other crappy actors and direct a crappy movie instead.

Or why not just go to Big Brother? Look at what that did to Shilpa's career. Providing you dont start beating everyone up...people might even get to know you.

Steven, want to star in a film being directed by "always angry revengey" actor? Call Sunny.

What i got for my birthday this year!

I recently celebrated my oldest-to-date birthday. And it was a brilliant birthday. Presents wise. I didnt get a box with some spit in it. Nope. Sorry.

Not only did not get anything I didn’t like or could pass to someone else on their birthday (I did that on my brother's birthday, I gave him a USB rocket launcher which works on windows XP. This would be brilliant, if he actually ran XP. He runs ubuntu and Windows 7).

Anyway, I got a wireless keyboard and mouse from SHE that must be obeyed. This was nice, because even though my current keyboard and mouse work just fine they are not that good looking.

I also received some novelty t-shirts. Batman and Skeletor made appearances on these t-shirts. This was brilliant. I’m a bit fan of anything nostalgic.

BTW skeletor was the baddie from He-Man. Youtube!

I also received a book. A book is always a nice present to receive. And this was a book I actually wanted. This made even more betterer.

Lastly I got a huge mug. Black. "The Don" in The Godfather script. As you know or don’t (if you don’t, look at the sidebar under "what I watched". I am big movie person and will list everything I watch there. I will also rate the movie according to me HA).

I got some t-shirts last year but they wouldn’t fit me (ahem) so I passed them on as a present to someone else. Job done.

So all in all a brilliant birthday.

What did you get on your last birthday?

Im selling my phone!

Im selling my phone. Any offers before i put it up on ebay!

Fasting: Im feeling it.

Ok fasting is really hurting today. I decided not to get up at sunrise and man it out by drinking just water.

8 hours later im now feeling it. My head is spinning. My fingers are dry and instead of working im typing on this blog........................

How are you liking the new format? as in: All this other stuff on the blog.

This new format obviously includes stuff i find interesting enough and post it on the blog. To share with you.
I did this because i came to realise that i cant come up with a kickass post everyday (well i could but that include putting other things on the back burner). So i thought why not share anything interesting on the blog. I am trying to restrict myself to not put too many items on there. I feel the blog would lose its essence if i did this. So i try to post only a few items here and the odd post from me to keep things ticking over.
Also a few more readers will be nice dont you think, so how recommending to a friend. Hey whats the worst that could happen? ( Hint: Dont send them something offensive ive posted that will put them off. Start off with something light like the " Sweaty poles" post. Search for it on this blog.

Odd neighbourly behaviour!!!

Yesterday I got home to one of our neighbors sitting in our living room.
This woman I tend to avoid like the plague. She wears "loud" clothes and too much lipstick. Throw in some leg hair and you more or less have the perfect bride for a bear.
She will sit there for no reason and watch TV, occasionally chit chatting ones health and generally just bad mouthing her mother in law. If there is a bigger MIL/DIL rivalry I’m yet to see it.
Anyway there she was sitting there on our red sofa, munching on some grapes. Some peaches occupied some space on the plate too but either she had not got round to them or either she just didn’t like them. I don’t know.
After the usual customary exchange of the enquiring of the ones health I carried on into the kitchen to make myself some hot brew. While the kettle boiled I mulled over if I had received any post that day. I hadn’t.
The family had been out and bought back some food. This is always nice to come home to. If you want to know what it was ill tell you. It was a Nan chapatti. This was filled with salads and greeneries of various sorts. Also a long kebab thing. I heartedly munched on this whilst sitting on the swing outside. It hit exactly the right spot.
Quite refreshed I retired to my room for a change of clothes and to check my email and reader unreads. Then, she who must be obeyed entered with a smile on her face. Uh-oh I thought. This is going to cost me money. It did. It transpired that she had seen a painting of some sort and acquired it with a small deposit. The remaining amount was left for me to fulfill. We had a little chat which started with “what the hell..." and ended with "ok I’ll give you some money". Mission accomplished she left me alone.
Alone at last I continued to slurp on my tea and carried on watching a TV drama series about humans and giant sentinels robots.
I then paused the TV drama (because I can never watch anything in its entirety. I always get distracted. The pause button is a god send).
I went downstairs and found that an hour later the neighbour lady was still there. Rolling my eyes, I thought this was just brilliant. I understood my own sarcasm.
Fast fwd three hours later and she is still there. She is sitting in the kitchen eating freshly made chapattis and curry (the curry which is made by yoghurt and gram flour, for all of those who don’t know). I knew how this was going to end.
She asked for some curry to take home. She objected to size of the container in which the curry was being put in and asked for a bigger container. She then asked for some chapattis to take for her sons.

Now can you blame me for not liking the woman??? What is wrong with this woman?

Gestureking!

Ok ive been dying to post a RajniKanth video. This guy is as cool as ice and as hard as Bruce Lee. Well in films anyway.

Warning: May contain funny bodily gestures and facial movements!

If only i was funny as these guys: Aeroplane engineers are funny!

After every flight, pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humour. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident.

(P = The problem logged by the pilot.)
(S = The solution and action taken by the engineers.)

P: Left inside main tyre almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tyre.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.

P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what they're there for.

P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.

P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.

P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget poundingon something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

Your definately laughing by now right?
